March 8 is International Women’s Day. This year’s campaign theme is #PressforProgress, and the hashtag focuses on feminism as well as international efforts to promote and gain global gender equality. The roots of International Women’s Day date back to the early 1900s and the creation of the Women’s Social and Political Union, a group of British Suffragettes who sought to get women the right to vote. It was first celebrated in 1911. In the United States, this year’s International Women’s Day is especially meaningful. The Conklyn’s Flowers team is proud to offer our customers a variety of floral designs with which to mark the occasion.
We’ve chosen to showcase our Sweet As Sugar design. It is a compact arrangement that sits in a cube-shaped vase. This arrangement incorporates a variety of flowers in shades of purple – or Ultra Violet – which also happens to be the Pantone color choice for 2018. Purple has a historical connection to the women’s fight for gender equality. International Women’s Day means different things to different people. We all know women who play significant roles in our lives, whether it be in a professional, romantic, friendship, or another capacity. We remember to give them gifts for special occasions like Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and all of the official holidays. Occasionally, we give them flowers on the spur of the moment. International Women’s Day is different. It’s the one chance you get during the year to say “Thank you,” “I appreciate you,” “I believe in you,” or simply, “I’m with you.”
The Conklyn’s Flowers team of creative floral designers is always eager to help the people in our community choose flower arrangements for any occasion.
