When your flowers arrive, they should either already have preservative added to the water or a packet alongside them. Use this flower food; it helps to maintain the pH balance of the water and to keep bacteria at bay. Bacteria is nearly inevitable, but there are some things you can do to help. Make sure no foliage falls below the water line, and refill the water in your container every day or so. If you feel like it won’t disrupt the floral design too much, you can even clean out the container or simply flush it before putting your flowers back in. Another great way to ensure that your flowers are getting a healthy drink is to cut the stems at a 45-degree angle. Doing this helps reopen the seal at the end of the stem, guaranteeing that your flowers can consume as much water as possible. Here’s to your flowers living their best life!
